About

Ally Mackay has 20 years experience working in Graphic Design, most recently with Ride It Clothing.

"After studying Graphic Design to HND level and gaining experience working for Glasgow City Council's design department I decided to go Freelance working under the "Graphics Lab" moniker.

After a few years of this I then had the brainwave of combining these skills with my passion for mountain biking and created Ride It Clothing which sells standard and custom riding and casual wear. I had no experience of clothing design but I sat down, researched and learned about the industry and competitors and looked at how we could be 'meaningfully unique' to stand out from the crowd. We achieved this by creating more unique designs and using a more modern Enduro fit jersey than the traditional Downhill jersey, which was baggy and loose. We spotted the changing trend early, it proved popular and is now the standard that people look for.

Designing garments trained my creative brain to work 3Dimensionally as well as 2Dimensionally. Other valuable skills I have learned along the way are liaising with suppliers to ensure deadlines are met, liaising with clients and suppliers at events, managing social media and creating creative content while also interacting with follower's so I can multitask various roles as well as projects. Adaptability is the key strength that I have learned".
